OCCO
Brief
This house is positioned on the edge of a natural ravine in the Saguramo area, overlooking the Caucasus range with Mount Kazbeki visible in the distance. From the beginning, the landscape was treated as untouchable. Rather than reshaping the terrain, the architecture was placed gently on top of it, maintaining a clear and respectful boundary between the built and the natural.
The rounded geometry of the house emerged as a direct response to the site. It is not a formal gesture, but an outcome of orientation and movement along the ravine edge. The building follows the landscape without competing with it, allowing the form to remain calm, continuous, and composed. The architecture frames the view rather than interrupts it, with all primary spaces oriented toward the mountains.
The upper level functions as a living platform. It accommodates the main social spaces, parking, and a pool positioned at the end of the curve, directly facing the landscape. This level is conceived as an open, sheltered environment where interior and exterior merge through large openings and a covered terrace that protects from sun and rain while remaining visually open.
The lower level is reserved for private spaces. Here, the architecture becomes quieter, with narrower openings and a gradual transition toward more solid surfaces. This shift creates a clear distinction between daytime and nighttime use without relying on complex planning or visual separation.
Materiality is reduced to a single element. A warm beige stone envelops the building and continues into the interior, reinforcing the idea of architecture as a solid, calm presence placed within nature. The material is not decorative, but structural in character, allowing texture and light to define the atmosphere.
The project is defined by simplicity and restraint. It offers a sense of luxury through calmness rather than expression, and through precision rather than excess. The house does not attempt to blend into the landscape, nor does it dominate it. Instead, it stands quietly above the ravine, framing the view and allowing nature to remain the primary experience.
