Brief
A weekend retreat near Tbilisi was designed with a single guiding principle: minimalism as both form and philosophy. Planning became the foundation of the project, ensuring every space served its function without excess. Large windows and skylights invite natural light, balanced with warm ambient illumination hidden within walls and ceilings.
The palette is deliberately restrained. Walls, ceilings and floors share a continuous clay-toned finish, with ceramic tiles underfoot for durability. In the bedrooms the entire floor is carpeted wall to wall, eliminating transitions and visual breaks. Travertine stone appears in select elements such as the fireplace base, kitchen worktops and bathroom surfaces, matched in tone to the surrounding walls. Light oak adds warmth through select furniture and detailing, while textiles echo the soft muted character of the architecture.
The living and kitchen areas are divided only by a central fireplace, with sliding doors concealed within the walls to create either a seamless open plan or full separation. The kitchen avoids upper cabinets, housing all ventilation and storage within the island to maintain visual clarity.
Straight lines dominate the composition with no organic forms or decorative gestures. The absence of visual noise draws attention to the user and the surrounding nature. Here, minimalism is not an absence of design but the design itself, an intentional calm that lets the landscape and human presence take the lead.
